September meeting

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Should we plan for the 15th of October? I had two casualities I'm afraid to say. The Xenia that Brian gave me was eaten by something the first night. Then, about a week later the zoo's that either Brian or Steve gave me were eaten. I had two tiger cowries in the tank and I'm suspecting them as the culprits. I moved them to my FOWLR tank and I haven't lost anything since. Too soon to be sure, but I think that was it. The only other thing that it could be would be pep shrimp, which I doubt. Everything else is doing very well. All of the zoos opened, Ed's xenia looks strong and the mushrooms are all attached to rocks and healthy. Thanks again and let me know if the 15th of October is good for everyone.

Soon you guys will be pruning and selling, then giving away then you guys will be hunting me down in revenge...   , Anyway glad all is well. As of yesturday I'm now filter less all I have now is a sump and skimmer and part time filtersock just to clarify the water...Hey Brian how did you get your overflows to be so quiet... I sure could use a tip this gurgle is killin me...

As for quiet I do not know stepped in it I guess. the pipes are cut at a 45 or better that is all. Else look up Durso stand pipe on here - there should be a pic or how to build one. This is a mod to quiet down the gurgle. I have seen and read the threads but never built one - if ya can't find them here look at www.thereeftank.com

Well, it wasn't the cowries eating my mushrooms. My next eviction are my peppermint shrimp. I read some posts that they are known for eating softies from time to time, so they've been banished to my QT. As far as diving goes, I'm certified. I'd like to recertify though so count me in (i got certified when I was 12). I'm going to Aruba to dive at the end of Oct. and Cayman Islands in Dec. I'll be sure to get pics. I'm probably heading to something fishy this weekend. That place is calling me. The NJ club looked too serious for me too. Maybe in a year or so when my tanks are established. I'm wrestling with the idea of a huge plumbing project. Oh and my puffer is back to normal. Is there any good day? I can do Oct. 1st or any day in Oct. until I leave the 28th for vacation.

Certain types of cowries are reef friendly think the tigers - others are not. figured they would be too big and do some rearranging. My peppermints only attack the little aptaisia. I will see more info on the dive and see if I can get enough interest. I am staying away from Something fishy I am over poped as it is. Any club that wants dues and has officers is too much for me. When we come to your house maybe we could all wrestle the plumbing. I am not gonna wear any costume though.

As for the meeting there does not seem to be a good day for all guess we just pick one that is good for most - I am wide open.
Steve is good for 7th, the 8th, 21st and 22nd next month.
ED---what is your wifes work sched again????
Tim should be good for 21 - is 21 good for you ED??

OK. I'm leaving for vacation on Monday Oct. 30th, so any weekend in October is good for me. Should we plan for the 21st with a reschedule date of the 22nd? Ed, what's your schedule looking like for next month? My xenia is going strong by the way. I caught one shrimp and have been trying to catch the other. He's a shifty bastard. I think that I need to build a trap.

Ed, what's your schedule looking like for next month?

The only two days Im not available in October is the 9th and the 24th. It also looks like Im going to have to change my stand. its really starting to fall apart.(particle board) Im going to make a shopping list today sometime and start building a stand... Anyone up for a stand changing party???
no, seriously anyone?

I will check with tim but 21 looks good -- My shrimp feel the need to come over and inspect my hand!

Everyone --- I just got my TDS meter so if anyone is interested bring some tap water and after ro/di water for readings at the meeting.

21st sounds good to me is it still going to be at bens house?

Yes as far as I know Bens house which means we can all meet at my house and carpool if eveyone wants to do that. Should be Steve, Ed, Me and maybe Tim. - ALL there is a 210 in my basement!!

21st at my house. Done. Ed, if it's a scheduling problem with babysitting bring the little one(s) along. It really REALLY wouldn't be a problem. I have a 1 1/2 year old running around. Otherwise, we can put a care package together for you. I stumbled onto a forum that ships a thermos around the country to trade stuff and it really peaked my curiosity. Maybe we can test ship you some goodies. 210!!! You can get your diving certification in there.

What are ya gonna do with the stuff inside??

I was thinking about draining all but 2 inches of water and five peices of rock because they are buried in the sand and I dont want to bother them. just going to be a short lift, just enough to get the old stand out and the new one under... sounds easy enough, huh?
