Really? I thought they did. What exactly are they good for? Its just really wierd because I've been using the filter since the beginning and its been working fine up untill that one evil water change.

oh well.. I ditched the filter and bought 10 gallons of store bought purified water and will do a waterchange tomarrow. Are there any good tapwater filters I can look into that may clean my water a little more thorough?

and what would be a good inexpensive TDS meter to get?

cheapest one here is 125$ that isn't bad for starters, you can always add to it later if need be, they also have decent TDS meters.
