Over the last 4 weeks or so, I've noticed SEVERAL days where accessing Reef Frontiers has been painfully SLOW. Is this a known problem... that hopefully will be cleared up before summer is over, and the user base increases greatly???

Ohhhh, how I hope so!!!!!!!

The "new post" link is missing and that is the only link I care about!

Get rid of the Archives, Fish Gallery, the Coral Gallery, etc., etc but not the "new post" link!

Yes we know about occasional slowdowns ... I have been looking into it over time as well ... Don't want to take too drastic of measures quite yet. I turned off the search feature for a time to see if that would help. It is back on now :)

I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention... incase it was an unknown problem.

I hope the remedy to the problem doesn't end up being removing the search feature... Reef Frontiers would be as horrible as Reef Central if that happened!!!

Turning the search feature off, didn't solve any problems, and I agree, we want to maintain search functionality ... So the troubleshooting will continue. NIce thing is, that when it occurs, it doesn't last too too long (hey, I am looking on the bright side here) :D

Yeah, I"ve virtually stopped reading reefcentral, except fro a few treads that I m following, because you can never use the search feature. it makes te site too cumbersome.

It is slow sometimes. BUT WAY WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!! I love this place. Thanks for all you guys do to keep it looking seamless. I know its a ton of hard work.

I've noticed it once and a while, but mostly when uploading pictures or sending private messages. However, I uploaded some pictures today and it was almost instantaneous. Oh, and not to change the subject or anything, but MtnDewMan, Marc from Melev's Reef, says tp tell you he misses having you over on the old site you used to be a part of. He said he would sit around and just wait patiently for you to post so he could check it out. LOL. Too bad we got you over here now.

The server is slow because of Ken's ramblin's, i think Chuck or Mike should use their ban power like commies and start banning Ken and his evil followers!

Would of hated to see what that said before the edit! LoL, sorry about the ban thing, thats how they do it on another site ive seen, maybe it works! LoL -JK-

Chuck... You guys are on a Dedicated Server Correct? If your on a Dedicated server It could be possible that the memory is Lagging behind... Might be time to Upgrade the Memory on the Server..

If your on a Shared server It could be possible that some Other forum is running and they dont know much about code and Opening Too many Threads causing the Lag...

My guess would be Memory Related but Its hard to Tell Unless you wwere able to pull up realtime Stats of the Server... I assume you should be able to Do that... Maybe Even Look into the Logs and see what Exactly goes on when the Lag starts...

My Site is on a shared Server and I have noticed that when my site slows down that the Memory Usage is about 98% and Cpu usage is down to about 30%...

I've typically found IO to be the bottleneck in forum software, although its highly dependant on the codebase. Unforatuntly, its usually much more difficult to get good IO statistics on most common server OSes now. One of the few things I miss from AIX and Solaris.

That being said, CPU and memory are easy to monitor, and if they check out, 9 times out of 10 its IO-bound.
