This is not to bash anybody so there will not be any names or vendors mentioned. With that said, if you plan on having any corals shipped this time of year while it's cold make sure whoever is doing the shipping understands how cold it is in your area.

I just recieved some frags yesterday (friday), the water in the bags was at least down into the 40 degree area. Needless to say, less than 24hrs later they're gone. Plain white skeletons. PM, A. soli, Leng Sy cap and three others which were freebies.

There were 2 heat packs in the box that to the touch were cold. 2 heat packs in 30 degree weather is just not enough. So when having something shipped this time of year request that there be a minimun of 4 packs. I myself didn't ask for more, a lesson learned and money down the drain.

I am sorry to hear about your loss, I my self have had absolutly no success with fedex shipping for me. but with that aside I agree it is a tuff time of year to ship, how ever I have had problems in the summer to, you think it will be hot every where so you ship with a cold pack wraped in news paper then the bag eventually gets cold from that too.
all in all it is a touchy thing shipping these fragile live specimens...

Sorry once again for your loss..

Matt

I'm sorry to hear of this and to hear things are going to be made right, which it obviously should be. I have shipped some years ago in both cold and mid summer. I never had any problems in using however many hand warmers or cold packs needed using for the weather. You just have to check and make sure you do know the weather to where the package is going. Then fit the packaging to match.

The shipper emailed me to let me know he would make things right. So if he reads this, Thank You. Can't beat that:)

that is good to hear Pat..i'm glad the seller is coming through!!!last week, i had some corals that got hung up in the mail for 2 days..they were supposed to be shipped overnight, but the post office screwed up....they arrived fine, thank goodness..the tips were a bit bleached, but they are doing fine...the temp was in the 20's here

yeah it's been cold here too. Where they came from is even colder. I really can't blame the shipper, I think they just miscalculated on the heat packs, plus I think the heat packs may have been faulty. They were cold to the touch when I opened the box. When I seen that I had my doubts that the frags would make it.

One other thing to note is make sure you check the heat pack time rating. They can vary from 8 - 24 hours. It will say onthe package how long they are rated for. I always use the 18 or 24 hour packs.

Regards,
Kevin

Good point Kevin, in the past I always also made sure they started heating up before I taped the box shut. If they are faulty or not going to heat up then there is no reason to try unless you get more heat packs and then make sure they start heating up and then tape em up.
