should i get a uv sterilizer for my reef?

i was told that it would kill my good bacteria and pods so should i get one or not? does antbody have one on their tank? please help. thanks

A lot of this decision depends on your overall budget.

For instance, if only have a set amount of money and I have the following choices;

A) completely amazing skimmer that is overrated for my tank, or
B) Good skimmer that is cheaper plus a UV sterilizer

I would go with choice A everytime.

It will kill any bacteria that goes through it....good or bad. It will NOT affect your Nitrogen Cycle though. (They reproduce too fast). Additionally, many pods can go through a UV unscathed. One of our sponsors sells pods and she's confirmed this fact.
