I found a few of these floating around in my tank. in the tank they look clearish, but after taking it out is had some color. I attached a pic. Not sure what it is, or if they are normal, I do know that I personally have not added anything like this. The closest thing I have to something like this two camel shrimp. I haven't seen any of these alive, normally I find them in the power head head.
As always, thanks,

Lee

I've got 2 camel shrimp, both are under an inch. Thought it might be one of them, but I've seen both of them tonight. So is old molting like a shed skin?

ya, as i understand they do it when they are growing, i have heard it can help to add a little iodine to your system. keep the stress down to them during this time.

Funny i had just lost one of my Pepperment Shrimp to my power head and the next day i saw a body (i thought) laying in the SubS, then figured it out the it was the Skunk Molted body shell. No about every 3weeks someone is molting and i'm cleaning it up. But i agree with Something Fishy this is a very good sign for your talk because they are growing.

I have also heard that shrimp do NOT need iodine added to the tanks for molting or any other reason. In fact, I've read that iodine can actually stress the shrimp causing it to molt needlessly.
I don't know which is true but I don't dose anything I can't test for and find that the system is lacking.
I don't have a test kit for, and have not dosed iodine as an additive in my seventeen plus years of reefing because I believe there is sufficient in the water mix, and, every time I add food it is being added along with other elements via the food I place in the tank.
In fact, I do water changes to remove the water with built up nutrient excess.
