I'm about to replumb my system to have one sump for both my display tank and my frag tank. I'll be using my display tank sump for this so I will need to drain and move my sump. I have a ~1800 GPH closed loop on the display tank that will continue to run during the move. If I throw a heater in the tank how long can my tank go without the sump? I would think a long time, but wanted to get some opinions. I'm thinking the maximum amount of time it would be down is 24 hours.

Hey Gordo,

It sounds like 24 hrs isn't too long of a period. Are there heater/chiller issues? Also will your skimmer be off during this period? Maybe add a canister/backwash filter to the display during the swap.
Good luck, Scott

many tanks run without sumps for their entire lives,,,i would have to agree with the skimmer issue, but one day aint nuthin'

Gordo - I wouldn't be too concerned about it, since it will only be 24 hours. If you think something might come up and it will be longer, just have some water ready to do a water change.
