One of my corals is not appearing too healthy since the last few days...
This was before
100_0570.jpg

In the past couple of days it has been looking like this...
IMG00074.jpg

The brown is not jelly or slime like...still meat but with holes on it...
It has not been in a fight with anyone...the other corals (mix reef) appear fine....water parameters are OK (based on one of those quick test strip test)
I've been trying TMC Dip on it....but no change .... I moved its location today... I have also replaced my polyfilter and carbon....
Help!!!!

Did you change it's position in the tank prior to this happening? Did you switch light bulbs recently, I've never heard of TMC dip what is it usually for? What other types of corals do you have? They're all totally fine? How long have you had this coral? As far as you know nothing strange happened to trigger this response? Have you changed any additives/foods that you normally add to the tank?

I moved it 2 days after the condition happened.
TMC = Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure Treatment
Nothing changed in the tank....lighting, additive, etc....
Mix bag of corals...softie, SPS, LPS....etc...all appear fine
I have the coral for over 6 months....

What other corals do you have in your tank? What was that coral sitting next to before you moved it? How do you add your "additives" to your tank. Did you add something before this?

How do you know it hasn't been "fighting" with any other corals? Just because they aren't touching, or even nearby, it can still happen. Aleopathy can take place anywhere in your tank. For instance, Green Star Polyp has the ability to kill corals quite a distance away, IN the ocean.

I'd suggest running carbon and if at all possible, moving this coral to a QT tank. If it is being attacked, or even if it's just sick, it could also put off chemicals that could have a negative effect on the other corals.

I have had this happen, the jelly effect and the "melting" away of the coral. Usaually on arrival in a cloudy bag, will sometimes have tissue damage from shipping that seems to spread. The only way I stopped it was a hammer and chisel....Since you say you have had it six months??? Also make sure the coral is in enough current to help wash away the dead parts, or carefully put in a container and softly move it back and forth to rinse it away. Tranfering the coral back without the contaminated water. You will be able to see the coral a little better and try and judge what is coing on. May be hammer and chisel will get you a healthy frag to save.

The neighouring coral has been there for a while as well.....several months....
When I said fighting I mean touching....I know of chemical warfare hence I changed out the polyfilter and carbon....
The spots where it has been located have indirect flow across the coral
So I guess the only thing I can do is wait or move it to another tank....

They do not have to touch. Some have "sweepers". Looks like in the picture the coral was next to some Ricordia and some other softie. I know the Ricordea can be pretty nasty in the search for more space.

Looks like there was a green acan right behind it. At night acans send out sweepers and will kill each other. I have one purple acan that has trashed many of my nice ones that fell on it or were placed too close to it.

Put it in a nice safe space, and don't touch it. Occationally feed it as possible at night after lights are out.

The green one behind it is actually the same family coral I think...Australomussa Rowleyensis
I've seen Acan attack and agree that it gets pretty ugly.....
I went over and talk to the LFS owner whom I got the piece from and his guess was it could have been due to high alkalinity....
Gone home did a test using my other test kit and it does appear high side so I am trying to drop it a little....I just opened a new bucket of IO....so I am going to check the Alk of 'new' mix and see how it is like....

Sorry to hijack the thread, but...

I thought acans can be right next to eachother even touching and not have any problems. I've seen soo many pictures where they are touching and right next to eachother on reef central, so do acans actually kill eachother? Like acan lord killing another acan lord? Micro killing another micro? I'm new to lps, so it would be good to know if that is the case.

Thanks,

Brandy
