Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question on repairing the silicone on a glass tank.

Can you replace just one seam and be okay?
Or
Do you have to replace every seam in the whole tank including the bottom?

Cheers,
Alex

Cool, So just to make sure, I cutout the old silicone from top to bottom and then just make sure and overlap the new seam with the sealer on the bottom?
Sounds easy enough.

Thanks,
Alex

Question is, why are you replacing this seam? Is it because something tore it & caused it to leak or is it because it is getting older & just giving out?

As was said above: If the seams are breaking due to old age, then you should consider re-gluing the entire tank. Otherwise, when we get breaks in our seams, we just cut out the affected area with an scalpel or box cutter, then re apply the silicone, making sure to overlap the old stuff.

Probably common knowledge... but clean the area extremely well before adding the acrylic weld and silicone.

Make sure that when you cut the old seam that you cut it to a point that is is sucurely attached for the overlap point.....

Scotterman,

I am looking at repairing the 2 seams in the front because they are chewed up a bit and I hate to have the tank set up with crappy seams to look at for a few years.
I figure I would get them fixed before setting the tank up completetly.

Thansk for the help and advise,
Alex
