Does anybody out there have any experience with the RK2 X flow skimmer? I have heard that this is one of the good ones and just want to confirm.

There large, commercial units are the way to go for a store, but their smaller, home ones seem needlessly complicated and expensive.

I'm planning on installing it on my new 275 that is in progress. I have space limitations and the RK2 looked like the best skimmer for the size. I have an ETSS in place now and have no complaints about them. I had wanted to upgrade within the ETSS line, but found that the height requirements after elevating the skimmer for its output were just to high.
As to the cost of these, I found them not to be any more than a ETSS Gemini 750 or there abouts. (with pump)
I'd like to thank everyone that had a response, but I have already ordered it and it should be on the way. (from the great folks at Custom Aquatic)
If I find that it won't work well for my application, then I'll try to sell it in the correct forum.

Well after 3 months of waiting I canceled the order on the RK2 skimmer.
I ordered instead an ETSS Gemini 800 from Custom Aquatic. What was delivered was disappointment in a box. The twin towers for the skimmer were both broke. The top chamber is to be bolted down with thumb screws through “keyhole†holes. None of the keyhole slots are machined correctly to allow the top section to be rotated. The only way to bolt it down is to use some washers.
I am sure that I can fix the skimmer, but for the amount they get for them I shouldn’t have to. Custom Aquatic was ready to have me ship the broken skimmer back but I instead opted to repair it myself due to the turn around time.

In a case like that I like to see things get shipped to me, and I will ship the broken crap back to them. It drives me crazy when they have to have thier hands back on the broken piece. Sorry your nice new skimmer was soo dissapointing. Why didn't you just build your own, they are really easy to make for a DIY freak.
I have to agree. I understand about the turn around time though e.t.s.s. sure makes a nice product and i know they would have helped you out. they often times ship ups and the standards for ups is it should be able to fall from the top shelf of their trucks at least that is what i was told from my local driver since than anything fragile i have sent fed-ex.

The busted pieces were I'm sure from rough handling. This skimmer was just to get me started on the new tank. I do plan on building a "Mojo" style later on.

Hey there Les,
I'm new to this forum but I'd like to answer your question about RK2 skimmers. First of all, sorry about your broken skimmer. ETSS is a great skimmer. I myself own 6 RK2 Protein skimmers that stands about 6 feet tall. I'm running 15 holding tanks for fish, SPS and LPS corals, through these 6 commercial skimmers. I bought them for $4K a piece and they are the best skimmer I've ever used, but of course they ARE commercial skimmers. You can find these sometimes for $2500 used. I run the skimmer first and then to a fluidized sand filter and have the water return to a couple of 240 gallon sumps to be redistributed to the holding tanks.
Hope this answers your question. Keep in mind on this unit when building your new 'mojo' reef tank.
