Skimmer not working?

Would a Maxi-Jet 1200 be a good choice? After pulling my Rio apart, it seemed pretty cheap. The Maxi-Jet would give me about 90 gph more than the Rio. It seems that should be enough to give it a jump start.

The RIO actually has more pressure than the Maxi.

RIO's are extremely inexpensive pumps - But they have a model/size for every application.

Can you find out what the recommended flow for the skimmer is (gph) and then pick the appropriate pump.

I have no idea what the manufacturer recommends for the skimmer, I can't even really find any information about the skimmer period. But I picked up a Maxi-Jet 900 and it's even weaker than the Rio. Before I was at least getting SOME foam in the cup, but now it's not even close. Does it need to "break in" first?

Thanks a ton Bri, I'll track one of those pumps down asap and see how that goes. The Rio 600 would be underpowered compared to the CA 800. Thanks!

I had horrible foam production with the Maxi-Jet 900 and returned it, and no one local carred the original CA800 this skimmer came with. So I located a new impeller for my old 600 and it's working a ton better. But I was still having the problem of a low water level, so I added a ball-valve adjuster to the output and limited it so the water level would rise. Here are the results after 1.5 days or useage. I think this skimmer will hold me over for another month until I get the new tank up and running, then I'll consider a new ASM G1/2 or something like that.
