Comments:
a) I have not been able to get Brian's skimmer to produce foam. I contacted Brian yesterday, he said he will try to stop by and work with it.

b) The GEO has produced some foam but limited. The Chamber is filled with bubbles, and I think it should be working better. I spoke with Chuck about this before his vacation. Since Chuck is out of the country I called George at GEO and spoke with him today. His thought was that the RIO Hyperflow 14 pump may be too much flow through the skimmer. So as of 5pm today - I have reduced the flow through the skimmer by approx 30%.

If George at GEO has a chance he is going to try to send me a standard GEO skimmer to add to the mix.

Completion of Skimmer Comparison Round 1

Well the Round 1 Skimmer Comparison is over. On Sunday, myself, Ken L(Konadog), Scott F (Algaeguy), Brent H, and Ted T (thetedinator) went through and reviewed the skimmers, their design, and their performance.

I have all the information and will figure out the best, way to post the information collected.

As for performance results from round 1:

a) Brian's Custom Skimmer - Skimmer never performed, could not get any skimmate out of it.

b) Custom GEO - Well after speaking with GEO regarding tuning the skimmer, I slowed the flow rate through the skimmer and it started performing better. However, on Saturday the skimmer just started producing clear water. No settings had been changed. I studied and adjusted the skimmer, everything looked fine but the skimmer was just not producing any skimmate.

c) Aqua C - This skimmer perfomed well all week, and constantly produced a nice dark skimmate - This was the best performing skimmer from round 1.

Skimmers Round 2

Well,

After removing the Round 1 skimmers, I cleaned out the test tank, got rid of all the algae, in the tank, and removed all the detritus.

The skimmers in the tank for Round 2 Includes the ETSS, MRC 3 and the GroTech.

The MRC-3 is in the tank, but has not been hooked up, I need to locate a 1" T Barb for the pump.

The Gro-Tech is the only brand new skimmer in this round - The Grotech was delivered last week, and it has had water running through it to break the skimmer in.

Details regarding each skimmer will follow when I get a chance to post.

Reviews of Round 1

Okay,
I finally got the reviews and the opinions compiled from the first round of skimmers. I am trying to figure out how to post the reviews table here in the thread. In the meantime you can find the reviews at:
These are the ratings, opinions and thoughts of Scott F/Algaeguy, Brent H, Ted T/Tedinator and Ken L / Kona Dog.
None of the opinions or thoughts listed are mine.

Round 2 - In Progress

The Round 2 is finally in progess. I had some electrical issues which prohibited the MRC from running - that has been resolved.

This is a really good round. All 3 skimmers are producing well, and they are 3 totally different designs (Down draft, Beckett, Venturi).

Today (Monday) I went and cleaned all the skimmers, emptied the cups and they are currently running against each other.
