The tank is 10 feet long, 3 feet high and 4 feet wide. It came from IAP - they just delivered it today. The stand and hole in the living room wall is going in next week. I still have to order a sump but am waiting until the tank goes in and the stand to be finished so I can nail down the size I need. The fake corals come from www.livingcolor.com.

So its not technically a reef tank - hope I am still welcome!

Still deciding my fish list. I have a problem with impulse buying fish and overstocking. Really trying to avoid doing that this time around.

So far I am pretty set on
- zebra moray eel
- some kind of puffer -golden, mappa, etc.
- naso vlamengii
- naso brevirostris
- personifer angel
- grey angel
- mated pair of bluejaw triggers
- sargassum trigger

That's going to be a SWEET tank. I like the fake corals. Let's you have the fish you want while still looking like a reef tank. Very nice.

The corals were more than the tank! My last tank was an SPS/clam tank. I am looking foward to being able to keep some fish that I couldn't before. Plus a reef tank at this size really isn't feasible cost wise. This tank is 4 times bigger than my old one but will be less maintenaince and lower monthy running costs.

Once its done I will be more than happy to host some kind of event for the PSAS.

Lighting

I am lighting the tank with 8 50 watt Ushio MR-16 bulbs. They are 12 degree narrow spot beams that will give me that "shimmering" look you get with halides. I have two 8 foot tracks so I can move them around and highlight certain points.

The big beams go through the floor and are secured to a concrete pad in the crawl space. We are guessing about 9000 pounds.

What is the kelvin of those awesome looking lights? and how much to replace each bulb?

The kelvin is stated at 6500K - they look much more like 10,000K. Tough to say until I see them running through water. Most MR-16 bulbs are around 3000K - way too yellow. I am supplementing them with PC Actinic bulbs to bring out more blue.

Obviously they don't have the intensity of 250W halides but they have alot less energy consumption as well. I was going for the shimmer effect without having to need the photosynthetic ability of a halide bulb.

The bulbs are like 6 bucks each.
