So ive got a big purple kenya tree....its about 6"x6" and was wondering if u pps thought that was a problem in my 75dt/50sump? I hear they relese toxins and when i added some stuff from the bob moore swap from one tank to this one, the sps arent as happy! Could it be my big softy is doing chemical warfare? I havent ran chemi-pure in it for the last couple months....
I may have to get rid of this coral if i wanna keep others huh?
thxs!

Havent checked parameters but im sure everything is fine...dont know till u check though lol.
Also when sps bleach, do they bleach from top down or down to the tips? I think i may be burning em too!

What do you have for lighting and where did you place them in the tank. High...Low...Yeah water parameters will help to know.

the sps are high with lots of flow...the kenya is on the bottom of the tank in the more lower flow area. My lights are the evolution 120 and the stark 60. Both are leds!

Well, I hear a lot of talk about acclimating sps from MH to LED's. That LEDs are that much brighter that they may bleach out sps if not acclimated to the light. I havent seen the bleaching process from this so not sure if they bleach equally all over or start at the bottom and work up. bleaching from the bottom up can also water issues, meaning the water might not be the same parameters as what the coral came from and the coral is reacting to that. I am assuming you want your calc and alk and mag to be the same as what the coral came from so as not to shock it any more than it already is.

If your still having some bleaching, you might move them down in the tank. If they still have polyp extension, they could be saved. I have one that bleached. I am guessing from the water getting too cold on the trip home. It still has polyp extension, so I am hopeful.

Its not that LEDS are to bright it is that all of the light they emit is in the zone that the zoox use for photosynthesis, if its all of a sudden to much the coral will release an enzyme that causes the coral to eject its zoox completely.

Guydude it could be a number of things, first is it bleaching?? as in the coral looks the same but it has gone white or clear and still has no tissue loss?? Kenya trees do use chemical warfare but are generally less toxic then other softies, so their is a chance. So let me know on the sps bleaching.

so the bleaching is tissue loss i believe... i grabbed the refractomoeter yesterday and my salt level was 1.021 and my other small tank was 1.023...could this sudden change cause it? Is bleaches where the light hits the coral though...

No bleaching is when the zoox are exspelled or leave the corals tissue. SO all the tissue is their but is void of zoox and thus color. If you are loosing tissue it is call necrosis and that can be either slow or fast and can be caused by a number of things but the most common is some kind of large swing in temp, ph and or salinity. Or any combination of things that put stress on the coral.

errr darn sps are so touchy! But kool and amazing creatures... well im topping off with saltwater now so i can bring the sg's back up slowly. My temps stay put well even during the night.

I havent been monitering my ph but i can grow favias and other corals seem to be fine and thriving.

I think my next sps i will place on the bottom bottom of my tank and move it up the rock work over a month or so...
thxs for the replies!
