Matt,
Adding valves may be the most cost effective way to adjust flow where you want it without the high cost of replacing the pump. I like Sea Swirls but as you noted they are a bit pricey

Easier, cheaper, and quicker than valves you can use reducers and lower the orifice size on the outlets near the pump.
