I know I won't get amazing snaps with this camera. But I do think I am missing something. I have figured out how to use the lighting settings and its an auto focus. However, I can't get a decent close up to save my life. I don't mean shot thats show the dimples in my fish' cheeks. I just want to beable to get a good shot of Polyps and Mushrooms. Can this be achieved on this camera at all?

Thanks!

You may just be too close. Every camera has a minimum focus distance. Here's info straight from Sony on your camera.

Minimum Focus Distance: 19.7" (50cm)
Macro Focus Distance: 3.9" (10cm)

However, you could also be dealing camera movement, even if it's on a tripod. When I shoot corals, since they don't move, I put my camera on a tripod, or sometimes just a stack of books, or anything that's stable. But, I also put the camera on timer mode. That way, I press the shutter release, then step back, and the camera sits there all by itself for 10 seconds and takes its own shot. This way, I guarantee no shaking from my finger pressing the shutter release.

As a side note... make sure you're shooting exactly perpendicular to the glass. If you're not exactly squared up with the glass, no matter how good the glass is, you will get distortion. You have to shoot straight through it.

Thanks Sherman, its working better now. I just need to fool around with the settings to get the picture more clear. I still get blurred edges, but not nearly as bad as before.

Thanks a million.!!!!!!
