I am spending a week at the end of march in Cali. I will be in Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Beverly hills. What I was wondering is if there might be a fish warehouse that would let me in to look around or maybe even buy something? Also, if there is any awesome stores I'd like to check em out too. They have gotta be spectacular though. My wife will be pissed if I drag her into an "Uncle Joe's Chromis house" where yellow tangs are only $75 each and the ich's no charge.

Hi Brett - I don't think any of the wholesalers will let you in if you don't have an active business account with them.

I went to an interesting place one time as I was going through LA called Fishsupply.com, which had recently opened it's doors to the public. It was the biggest place I had ever seen. I guess if you hit them on a good day you could see a lot. But in all honesty, there were no prices and a huge language barrier trying to get any information.

There is also Jeff's Exotics outside OC. If you go to their warehouse (not their storefront) it can be a lot of fun, but it's a little tricky to find.

Have a great trip!

Susie :)

And to verify, the wholesalers won't let you in without an account. They ask for it at the door. However, if you have a "connection," there's nothing like the wholesalers. Think Costco, but livestock only. Literally hundreds of every kind of fish you can think of, and hundreds of animals you've never even heard of.

I went to Eye Candy Aquariums yesterday before coming home and was very impressed. They had 2 big show tanks and a large frag tank with clams and smaller frags. Quite a bit of rare stuff. There are also another 15-20 or so tanks with various LPS & Softies.

I bought a 2 head frag of an Acan Lord and a fairly good sized zoo frag. The selection was very nice and the prices were pretty good. We were at Disneyland for the weekend and they were the closest.

A couple things to keep in mind if you are bringing back corals on a plane.

1. Do not try to check a styrofoam container. Southwest does not allow styrofoam. They said I could bring a plastic cooler and put the frags in there and seal it shut. I ended up having to buy a wax coated box to put everything in to make sure nothing leaked.

2. I was initially told that I could bring coral home on the plane and when we arrived to check in for our flight they told me that they do not transport anything live. The lady at the counter made several calls to SW and TSA and was finally able to confirm that it is ok to check coral. This took a while and held up the line a bit. Make sure to get confirmation before going to the airport in writing if possible.
