Just wondering if this sponge is good or bad? Assuming it's ok but thought I'd ask. Moving the tank and wondering if I should keep it or get rid of it. I've got quite a bit of it growing throughout my LR. Sorry for the dirty water pics but cleaning the tank. Thanks in advance.

There are sponges that do seem to have a negative effect on Zoanthids, but they're black. The sponge you have is one that I have several of, in 2 of my tanks. Never noticed any ill effect from them. They seem to grow in darker areas and I'm sure they add to natural filtration.

Agree with sid - although as an encrusting type of sponge variety, it can pose a threat to corals if for some reason it grows out of control and over them, just like cyano can smother a coral, so can a sponge.

Sponges are easy to kill tho too - just take the rock outta the water, let it dry for 10-20 minutes, and you've probably killed most if not all of the sponge.
