Good Morning to Everyone,

I am in the process of building REEFTANK2. I have a 3 yr old 90 gallon tank which will be coming down. It is a mixed reef that has been a "training tank" for me and our family.

Reeftank2 has been adopted from M. Howard and she is a beauty. Weighing in at - well lets not go there. 60 gals. of nothingness but only for a couple weeks.

I have a highschool kid that I am to mentor for his senior project (reef tank)so this will be a good teaching tool also.

I wanted to thank someone for the great plan on a stand but can't find the link again - so whoever you are - GREAT job and you have inspired my woodworking skill!!!! Let me know if you recongnize your idea.

Now for the pictures.

The support system in place (day2)

For those wondering on the previous post. The legs are really the same size.
Well in these shots you can see the stand is coming together nicely.

The back is 3/8 " and 4x4 legs and top plate

Then the skins (day 3)

Here I go slapping the skins on the base. The whole project has been super fast. I have glued, reinforced, braced and sanded all of the pieces. The doors will be later this week when the mentorboy comes to help. He needs 15 hrs. of time and I am sure he will get it by May. What a great project and it costs nothing for him.

The finish on this will be natural with a hardwood floor seal. Ideas? I think I will go with a Danish Oil and topped with poyurethane.

How does it look? How about a plumbing idea? Closed loop Ampmaster 2700 and a 4 way Oceansmaster are in the works.

Looks great! This will make a great project. Is the tank going to be BB or have a substrate? Is the closed loop drilled yet? I thought I saw a bulkhead in the tank?

Day 4

No photo today but I did manage to get it sealed. It is natural colored poplar. It sure looks nice. I have onlt the 2 1.5 bulkheads in. I need to do the 2 sump returns, 4 oceansmotions returns, and standpipes. I need a good design for the CL and plumbing. ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks

Update (Week 1)

I received the closed loop pump today. What a beast. I will be getting the flexpvc and the OM soon I hope. I spent quite a bit of time today getting the return lines drilled in. The drilling part was easy once I knocked out the first one. There are still a few decisions on how the loclines are to come out but I will cross that bridge next week.

I put the last of the hardwood floor seal on the stand and hood and it sure looks nice. Have a look!!!!!

By the way it will be a BB set-up.

Update 3-1-05

Thanks Brad,

I am pretty excited. Just moved this set-up into the house and received approval for placement into the living room. It looks great. I picked up my 4 way OM yesterday and is is one cool unit from our friends @ Oceansmotions in Canada. Well, I took a couple pictures to show some more progress yesterday. I have the outputs joined up and run down to the Ampmaster 2700 now. What do you guys think? I am going by research but trying to keep things simple too. The output returns are split into the tank via the diagram below 4 ways to 8 directions and 2 extra bulkheads that I still may split again. I will describe the flow in another post but I have flow everwhere I think. I am not sure what to do with the LR. The cured rock that I have has those white little starfish (Anestaria - something like that) so, maybe I will need to get some more LR. Is there a way to clean them ALL off without destroying the other life?

Another note, I place the unions on the pump and hopefully this will help in servicing if i need to or pump changes. The loclines will need to be adjusted and I have some idea for the LR but i imaging the 2700 will have to be reduced a bit.

Flow Logistics

In an effort to explain the flow here I go!!!!!

There are a combination of loclines and open flow tips.

The bottom bulkheads:

Black comes up and to the center region
Red comes out to the sides and is pushed with the same bulkhead.

The top bulkheads:

Lavender comes out to the rear sides/corners
Blue comes out and downward through the continous green flow from the sump returns.

In general I should have a great deal of mixing and hopefully the detrius will stay moving up and out the center overflow. It will be BB.

Look okay?

Brian

For Sale

The system was water checked last week. It has run awesome for 1 week. No leaks and the flow is crazy. I have to run the 2700 @ 2/3 of the way and it keeps everything moving great. My mentorkid has received all the data he needs and we are pretty much finished.

After getting is set and everything - we feel that it just doesn't fit the room so it is now for sale. I will list my costs and take an offer if somebody is interested in an awesome SPS tank.

I still will be finishing the doors but, as for the set-up - it will include the tank, stand, hood, sump, bulkheads, all the plumbing is done for the closed loop(flex PVC which is great, the valves on each input and the output to the pump @ 1.5")

You will need to place a CL pump, and SuperSquirt or 4 way OM, lights, heater, skimmer and whatever else.
