My monti cap is dying and now some other things are bleaching out. We had our calcium ect checked and it was all great but our nitrates are high because of our mean eel that we have to feed like crazy. Does high nitrates cause sps to die? Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just talk my stubborn husband into getting rid of his ahole tesselata? Thanks.

Nitrates and phosphates make sps brown out usually. STN and RTN are generally associated with alk instablity(ie dropping from 9-6dkh over the course of a few days) or pests like AEFW, or monti eating nudis.

i would definitely start checking at night for monti eating nudi's.. those suckers hide very well

what is aefw? should I put glue on the bottom of the monti and the tips of some of my birdsnest is turning white why would that happen hmmm thanks

High nitrates will definately effect the growth, health and color of sps. Water changes will help but like you stated the ray is the cause of the high nitrates. What type of skimmer are you running??

Well if the tips of your birdsnest are turning white it may be growth. can you get a pic?

we use an etss600 or something like that our nitrates are at 80 I will post a picture tomorrow our regular computer is down. it just looks faded everything looks faded.

80, well that would cause issues. I would start doing water changes and lot of them. You already know what is causing them now you either have to do alot more work or get rid of the poo factory.

ohhh man I lifted up a piece of the capricornis and found this slug thing underneath of it. its about the size of half a dime. Its pretty flat with long tentacles about the same size as the body i think they are red and he has two little tiny black eyes anybody got any ideas?

Hard to tell without a pic. I will try to take a stab....... When it moves is a slow or fast crawl? Does the shell cover the whole top of the body?

you know those nassaris snails or whatever they are it has a body like that but a little rounder. Its shell has a bit of a look like mother of pearl. Its shell is flatter. It moves at a medium rate I had a little nudie from some cheato I bought that moved really fast in my nano but my wrasse ate it right when it went in there. its brown in color.

oh ya my birdsnest is completely white today yesterday it had color. You know those brown pieces that you gave me dont know the name but it is okay and the tips are white but I dont know if thats new growth I took my capricornis that you gave me my only piece left and put it upstairs. If I do have something that is eating it. If I take out all of the stuff it eats will it die or eat on something else? Thanks.
