Good idea? Or a horrible one? Do you think any SPS would survive/thrive in an 8gal nano under 36w of PC lighting? I have rock stacked fairly high so they could be positioned at the top directly under the light. My water quality is almost always perfect, coraline galore, and all of my softies do great. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this successfully without halides. And if so, what species would do best. Thanks!

I have seen the little 12g cubes with sps on them but they all had halides, I think like a 70W. Probably If you were careful on what you put, I think you could!

Any idea as to what species could handle the lower lighting? I've been told Cats paw would do ok.

I may end up just buying the JBJ 70w clip light. Even with just 70w, that's over 8w per gallon. I'm just broke as hell due to medical bills, and will be for a while. LOL.

I had a cats paw under VHO's & they grew slowly but It worked LOL!
I'd have to open up my book to really off hand know what would fair under that lighting, I can't remember things like that any farther than I can throw a thought LOL Find what you think will work or want & post them up!

Hey Brie, I would agree with cats paw being decent, I have had some growing under my t5s for about a year now. Its been growing VERY slowly, but growing nonetheless.

Also, Heliopora or Blue Ridge Coral would be a hardy addition. When the polyps come out on these guys it really looks like a crazy hairy SPS, but its closer to softies than anything else. They can shed their skin so I would keep that in mind, but it might be something to look into.

Ok well, I picked up an ORA Pink Birds Nest and an un-IDed ORA sps labeled only as "Marshal Island green polyped purple" from Barrier today. I agree with Chris' recommendation to probably go with most ORA sps corals as they were raised in natural sunlight and would go through less shock transfering from there to a tank with just PC light. So far the birds nest has good PE, the Marshal Isl coral though is taking a bit longer.
