was wondering how much sleep the sps keepers get. ive been getting about 5 to 6 hours a day. with two young kids, work and house choirs, the rest of my free time goes to the tank. i feel sorry for my wife. was wondering how much sleep you guys get and ways to not touch your tank for a day.

screw the hood together. You wont get into it unless you really have to because its too much of a pain to remove all of those screws...

That was an answer to your question of "how to not touch your tank for a day." Most reef keepers dont understand that you can enjoy your tank without having your hand in it.;)

6-7 hours a night!:) With all the other things you are doing, I am VERY surprised you have any "free" time at all.

:)I don't even have kids yet and that is about how much sleep I get maybe less. I always tell myself when I get home from work I'm going to take a nap, but it never happens some how I regain all this energy when I see my tank LOL. I know I spend way too much time staring at my tank and get the constant question from my lovely Fiance ( What are you looking at?). Then I try to explain what I am looking at and then she quickly loses interest and says yeah yeah what ever and storms off. Man I'm getting tired I need to get some sleep.

oh yeah, thats why you had it done in your previous sps tank setup. prob is that i need to open my canopy door to feed while i think you reached behind to feed.

i swear sps keepers are insomniacs. i catch myself staring at the tank for 12 minutes straight sometimes.

its tough, even my son cries for attention when im near my tank. i'll be standing there fixin something and he would say pappa and grab my hands to go color his books or play with his toys..

i can see know why people take a break from this hobby now. going on vacations too with the family is a nightmare. always worrying about the tank.

hey tike666, i saw you have a beautiful daughter from the other threads. im sure she takes alot of time to play with. what's your sleep schedule?

oh remember the bryopsis days, those were like 3 to 4 hours of sleep trying to get rid of that algae.

I dont keep SPS, but plan to next year. Is it not best to keep your hands out of your tank as much as possible?

I work from my home office in the basement

I set up my reef in a room just off my office so I can see it while I am working, yet I dont really look at it. I get depressed it is only a 55 gallon and I cant put my 630 gallon together until spring. Long story short I have to remove a window to get it in the house so the waiting game began. The 55 gallon has turned into a holding tank for any great corals I find while I am waiting to set up the big daddy.

I get about 4 to 5 hours sleep a night without my big tank: 3 kids, wrestling, softball, batting cages, pitching lessons, and a home business. I do remember when I set up my fresh water tank in the living room so I would enjoy it. I wonder if it is still there sometimes since I hardly ever see that one too.

I was going to put the big daddy in the same room as the 55 but instead I will move my office back into that room and put big daddy in the main living area of my basement. That way I can see it from my desk and every time I walk by it.

I think once the madness of putting it together starts I will be lucky to get 2 hours sleep, or I will be sleeping at my desk.

11:00pm til 5 am. She's in bed by 8-8:30. Also she is at the age (6) that she plays a lot on ger own.:)

No, you'll be sleeping in front of the tank for the first few nights.....just to make sure....lol. I know whenever I've made major changes to my tanks, I wake up during the night, to check on things....just to make sure....lol.

I think for the first few night I might just to have sleep overs and we can all take shifts watching the tank between sleeping.
