Had the opportunity to build an oak stand for a fellow reef here at RF.
As some of you know I like thinking outside of the box. More times than not. LOL
Our fellow reefer thought that magnets to hold the door in place was a great idea!! As do I. Much better access to the underneath the tank.
This is my take on sticking the door to the cabinet.
The bottom rail that the door sits on has a bevel on it. Sloped to the inside of the stand.
The door has a lip cut around the edge of the door to keep the light in the stand. So at the bottom of the door I cut a bevel in this lip.
This will keep the bottom of the door tight against the face frame.
On the top of the door I mounted two metal tabs to keep the top against the face frame
One on each end of the door, about 3'' in from the left and right side.
Now the tricky part!!! (not really)
I bought a pack of 3/8'' X 1/8'' rare earth magnets. I will use two per slot.
They are just a bit thinner than the slot that my biscett jioner will cut
I cut the slot about 1/16'' from the face frame
Drop in the magnets, Shim the back of them to keep them as close to the front as possible
Make a custom piece of wood to fill the slot around the magnets
Glue it in the slot and sand it flush
There you have it. Metal, sticking to wood!!!
