A couple of days ago I get a knock on my doorbell the PUD saying there was going to be power cutoff for seven hours. I freak a bit, and she asks if it was a problem and I say yeah it is I have all kinds of fish tanks. She tells me they have a generator I could use if one of the businesses don't need it first. She said she would get back with me if there is a change. I wake up today and no power no generator and grrrrr. So I'm filling cups and emptying cups every so often to get some aeration and movement going. I'm not worries about my Coldwater stuff but my gig tank and haddoni tank I'm a bit worried for.

I would call them up and remind them of your situation. They see as "just fish" but you see it as thousands of dollars with no insurance.

Yep called and left a message. We shall see. Things are holding up so far though. Temp should be fine since my house stays warm. And my aeration looks to be working

I hate to be the bad guy but................. Its not PUD's responsibility to provide you with back up power. They provide a service and do their best to keep it up 24/7 but there are always disruptions.

A power inverter ranging from 400-1200 watts can be bought for less than $100. My 800 watt inverter hooked up to my truck has saved my tanks more than once. I've had to stay up all night to make sure no one stole the truck while it was in the driveway running but it worked.

Now I have a generator and recently had to take a day off work because PUD scheduled a power outage for a few hours in my neighborhood. I chain it to my truck but I still dont sleep well when its running because it will run out of gas if neglected too long.

Power outages are a guaranteed issue in the Seattle area and we should all be prepared for them if we don't want to lose livestock.................

Well your right I should have had a backup. I was going to buy a generator off craigslist but money disappeared on me. My fault again. Was just hoping they would follow through with what they said they would do. Since I live kitty korner to their office and sub station. I've been a good neighbor to them lol.

The clowns are swimming fine still so I'm hoping the "cup pump" works.

this is huge part for me....i agree with it would have been nice for them to at least care a bit.

So I went and talked to the Forman and they ran an extension cord to keep a couple pumps running. He also told just a half hour left.

I would loan you my inverter and an air pump for airstones, if you want to drive to Mill Creek. Best to also run a low watt powerhead such as a maxi 400

We had our power go out during a huge (as in area wide) wind storm last month. Power went out at 8:30PM, and the wind was just getting going, so I figured it was going to be an all night thing. Hooked up the generator, remembered how to *start* it, and hooked up Tunze pumps, 1 return pump, 1 skimmer pump and 3 heaters. Power was out for just short of 9 hours and everything fish & coral-wise survived. 270 gallon display. I slept and checked it all twice during the night; having a plan helped!

So they restored power an hour ahead of schedule and all is well. The cup pump worked well. In the lobster tank the white spotted rose looks like it ate something big. The tang looked a lil drunk swimming near the end but is doing fine. All was well:) thanks for the concern. And the lady at the PUD came to my door and apologized for not setting things up like she said. She was busy setting up the job. No problem, now I need to start looking for a generator:)

Couple of suggestions for the mean time until you get a generator. I use a server battery backup that i have my mp40's hooked too. That will run them for about 8 hours (two mp40) Also i have two battery powered air pumps as another backup.

Good thing you don't live in the Bahamas! When summer hits, they sometimes load shed and you could have an outage at least 3 times a week and sometimes multiple times a day. They don't call or warn you much less offer you a generator. You better have your own.

Ive never lost power since I'm the second house from the substation but now I'm learning my lesson

That crazy...I can set every clock in the house with my eyes closed now it happens so often lol. We have a generator that can run everything in the whole house at one time, but not everyone has a generator.

WhenI went to visit my son when he lived in Guam, the power would go out everyday about 4PM. Man inside the house it would get hot and humid real fast. He would then fire up his generator so we at least had fans, not enough to keep the a/c going though. When I move I will need to get a generator. I've been without power out in the country for days during a cold winter storm and it's not fun. I had a generator, but couldn't get the thing started. Glad to see everything turned out okay with your tanks Paul.
