Being that the Poll revealed that stacking down the middle is the way a majority of people like to do… I’ll do the same. Sorta. Finn said,

I have a tendency to stack it against the back wall, but on my 240 I left a 4-5 inches of space for water to circulate. With the rock higher on the ends. So not all the way back and not all the in the middle.:)

So here are some pictures of what I envisioned I could do. Each side, about three feet, would be in a half moon configuration, with peaks on either side of the tank and one peak in the middle. The rocks would stay off the back wall.

This is just a rough feel, not a finished product. Remember, Scootie teaches; PVC is cheap, use lots!!!

Sounds and looks good to me Trevor! I've always had great success with the rocks off of the backwall. Good luck man :)

When I first set up my tank I did put the rocks on the back wall, but over time regretted it because it was very hard to keep it clean. Now I have all rock in the middle and plenty of room to run a magfloat throught the back side, it looks alot bettter this way.

I am definitely on the "down the middle" band wagon. I had the stack to the back for a year and didn't care for it at all for maintenance..

Looks great! Is that PVC rock stand for your sump return or part of a closed loop?

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris,

The PVC rock stand is for a CLS. At this point I've got a 3500 GPH pump for it, but being that it's all 2" plumbing anyway, I could upgrade in the future to a 4500 GPH pump.

In the first picture, you can see the sump return; a Wavey Seas. There will be two of them with a PanWorld that's rated at 1200 GPH for the sump return. With the head loss, I'm thinking that I'll be down between 700 and 900 GPH.

Just to clarify; I'm thinking that I'll stack the rock up against the PVC, leaving three to four inches behind the rock and the back wall of the tank. More room for SPS's, ya know!
