How about things to run your aquarium up to 48hrs on portable power safely w/o generator. Combinations of UPS devices and daisy chaining deep cycle rv batteries and inverters ect. The idea being low AMPS/wattage pumps for circulation and a heater. T'is the season of emergencies and bad weather.

Another topic is replacing seal components on a dart pump....I'm having to contact reeflo about my failing 2.7yr old pump.

That is a good suggestion Deb.

I will do a bit of research on the emergency power supply and see if it is a cost effective project.

am i still allowed to suggest something? i'd love to see a 'workshop' on the diffrent types of flow.. i can never remeber the right names, and it seems like something thats always an afterthought. like raceways and how to 'work' random when you don't have controllable powerheads.. also how maybe some defintion type stuff to cover what we all think is high versus low.. i've recently seen how much 'random' flow really seems to make things happier in the tank when i added a wp40. you also hear a lot of the 'increase flow' responses to algae threads, and i wonder if folks realize how important it actually can be. i mean, with a couple of powerheads, some food dye possibly, and a small tank, it seems like a LOT could be illustrated... and it also seems like this would hit the 'new folks', because it seems like we almost all start out with not enough, or powerheads placed randomly around the tank in an effort to find something that seems right...

That can be a good demonstration for a future workshop.

As for using food dye in a tank filled with water. The dye will dilute and dissipate very quickly. To quickly in fact to get a real idea on how the water is moving in your tank.. I have found if you use flake food you will get a much better idea.

The amount of flow 90% of use in our tanks is nothing compared to what mother nature has.

someone told me once food dye would work... but now that you say it, that sounds much more like what would actually happen.
i agree about the mother nature thing.. theres a line in how much we can mimic though, especially since some of the animals we keep have worked hard to find a piece of the ocean where they are getting hit full force...
