I walked in this evening and found my tank temp sitting at 83. All frozen water bottles are in the sump now. Hoping it puts it in the sub 80 range.

my tank is 82.4, and the attic fan in the garage is still on...everything is doing fine

Have a question, so to keep my tank cool, for one have a 12000 btu air conditioner going all the time, setpoint is 76 degrees that keeps the tank at a cool 77-78 degrees and for extra help I have some gallon buckets with R.O water in the freezer, when things get a little hot I dump a big ice cube in the sump to cool things down, my question is, is that ok to use R.O cubes (gallon size cubes) and let disolve in sump ? Any comments will be appreciated. Been using cubes for 2 summers ,I know having a chiller is the best option, but they are so expensive.

My tank always runs at 78degrees all year long without a heater and t5 lighting.....I keep my lights about 2" off the water. I had some zenia grow all over the place and started trying to remove them with no avail. I then got some snails that were climbing out of the tank and lowered my light right on the top of the tank to seal the top so the snails wouldn't escape, we'll my temp climbed to 82 degrees and the corals did great but it killed all the zenia........I have ran my tanks from 76 to 82 degrees with no problems.

I would get some plastic water jugs to freeze. Then you don't have to worry about affecting the salinity.
I found that the heavy duty bleach containers lasted forever and had nice handles.

Well I have another question, how high will be consider to high, temperature wise for a saltwater tank, sps, los, softies ?

I use to keep my 240 at 77.8-78.3
But now without my chiller running, it has settled at a even 79.
I would be concerned if it got up over 82

My metal halides are 8" above the tank which really helps. I do have a fan that comes on with the halides and a full glass lid that helps with evaporation. Lastly I have a frozen water bottle in the freezer I'll throw in if all else fails
