Sump in Garage questions

How do you figure that there will be no extra "head" with an additional 3' of vertical rise? not to mention the additional run length. Closed loop pumps gain the benefit of gravity but I don't see how an additional 3' lift (on top of an allready existing 2 - 4') would not add additional resistance

Because you get the benifit of an extra 3' of gravity pull on the way down too. 3' + (-3') = 0

The only additional losses, would be incurred due to the extra pipe length.

When putting a sump in the garage, how do you penetrate the wall and how do you finish it off to keep the wall insulated?

you dont happen to have a crawlspace or basement do you? the only things in the actual house is the tank and the skimmer in our setup. all the rest is plumbed downstairs. never had a heat problem, too hot or too cold. clearance is a little less than 5'.
