All right, so the pump does about 420 gph but with head loss that figures out to about 180 gph that I'm putting through the sump.

180 gph in your sump isn't too much at all, no need to worry about washing your pods away 
You could probably handle a lot more than that also, if you decide you might want/need to some day

Yeah, I haven't used that pump yet so I didn't know how fast or slow it would be... the one I have running right now doesn't have any information on it so I have no idea what I've been doing in terms of gph, but I plan to start using the one I took the measurements from as soon as I can get some sort of an adapter to connect it to the hose - the hose and the pump have the same size hole.
(Edit: That's rather nice... as soon as I mentioned it, I managed to find an adapter. Pump is running beautifully, even if rather slower than the last one I had on there. )
