Hey welcome to RF, but not a great start already posting to buy/sell on your 3rd post. Need to read rules & regs again. On the sump it all depends on how much room you have and what you want to use it for. I'd start a new legit thread in the Tank Design forum and give us your story there.

How much room do you have under your stand for one? There are a lot of diy sumps you can make out of a standard fish tank you just need to know what you have room for. Check out this website for more info.

yea, DIY. When choosing a sump, you should also have your protein skimmer selected. The skimmers are different sizes (both on area needed and hight.)

You'll need to make your first sump chamber big enough to hold the skimmer, and if you look at the skimmer specifications, it will say how deep it can be (ie. sit in 8" of water.)

You'll probably need to make a little stand for it to sit on (I did this out of a piece of plexiglass with 4 legs cut from PVC pipe and glued on.), and you'll need to make sure you are able to put this under your stand (if that is where your sump is going.)

Some of the skimmers need a lot height in the stand. Once you have the skimmer picked out, you can design the sump to hold it

I agree DIY with a standard fish tank and go as big as you can fit under your stand but make sure you leave enough room under the stand for other equipment. Also pick out the skimmer you are planning to use 1st then build your sump around it. I see tons of threads where people buy a sump and then later find out it will not accomadate thier new skimmer.

sorry to be so vague, but I made my own with a 10G tank from Wal-Mart. My DT is a 55G and has an Eshopps 300GPH HOB overflow. I made all the piping from PVC piping. I have LR rubble, Eshopps PSK-75 Sump Skimmer, Heater, UV Sterilizer, MAG 7 return Pump & Heater in my sump. Made all the difference in my DT.
