I have a beautiful orange Sun Coral that is thriving. I feed the entire tank well and use Cyclop-eeze and Oyster Eggs. I have it trained to open about 8PM for feeding which is also my peak viewing time - what a win-win. I think the coral is growing but I'd like to know what to expect. Does it grow and extend it's skeleton? Will it put down polyps on an adjacent rock?

regular feeding will spur it to planulate asexually in time. Until then, yes... extratentacular budding (growing outward) will be observed)

Watch, when the polyps fill all the rock - then better to place sun coral on another rock - to grow on. Don't know, will it work or not, but I missed this point, and my sun coral has polyps, growing under the rock. Had to glue the new rock at the bottom - to give room for a growth.
With twice weekly feedings it took more, than year to reach this stage.

I thought you were supposed to feed a lot more then that. Unless you feed a lot of other things in your tank daily and there is just food in the water, which you should mention.
