super cheap base rock?

does anybody know where to get really cheap base rock? nothing is going to be put in the tank for a couple of months but i am going to start cycling it out now and so the rock will be pretty good by then.

Agree hirocks.com is the cheapest around. I bought a 60 lb box to use for frags 2-3 months ago for less than $80 shipped

that is definately cheap...i was going to say Liveaquaria.com...i won't vouch for their rock, but they have some pretty cheap base rock..

I wasn't too happy with Hirocks that I got. They are very cheap and as advertised, but they were also very round and hard to stack in any stable way. They also obviously have no life at all which is the fun part of live rock. For only a few bucks more you can get fiji from Liveaquaria or Pacific east aquaculture - always nice to support a sponsor. I ordered 270lbs of rock from Pacific east aquacluture and the shipping bill only came to $38

wow!! i have never heard of rock shipping that cheap!!! how was the quality of the rock??? nice shapes and sizes????

guess, it would be cheaper to get say, 200 lbs from aquacluture then to go to a local and get it at 8 bucks a lb

Yah, it was cheaper shipping than I was expecting. I think they used to list the minimum shipping charge as $60 but when I picked it up at the airport the bill only came to $38. It was their Kalainii rock, maybe that is what they are selling as Tonga now? Good overall different shapes with one piece weighing close to 40# and two pieces weighing close to 30#.

Ron the hirocks rock is good if you get the porous "best" stuff. They also offer the "plain" which is what I got for frags.

reeferrocks are super nice and very porous. I order from Hirocks 2 years ago and was not really happy with the density of the rocks.

Reeferrocks does have nice stuff. Last time I contacted them to buy a box of small frag pieces they where over twice as much as hirocks though. Guess it all depends on what you use it for. I just went to there site (reeferrocks) and you can actually buy 45 lbs of LR from liveaquaria for $20-30 more than dead base rock. I would spend the extra money.
