Has anyone ever used a surge device to blow up and through your live rocks?

Steve...Do you mean a surge device like the Tunze wave box? I've never, if that is what you mean...Maybe you can ask Zack:p

Not exactly a surge device, but I have a couple of powerheads behind my rocks...blowin' throughout them. I tried to make the intakes as easy to get to for maintenance.

I dont know if you have seen them krish, I just recently have. It is more of another tank above your main display that is fed by a pump. When the container fills it lifts either a float to open a drain back to the tank(like a toilet) or another option is to fill from the bottom and have a siphon tube fill and drain back to the main tank. I will see if I can find a pic for ya. looked pretty cool.

We were just talking about those in another thread! hehe. I've not used them for long periods, just testing, but know they work well.

That's really neat Steve! I have seen something like that before I just wasn't familiar with the name...Very cool.

How to Build a Powerful Surge Device by Bruce Carlson. I really need to read up on these, as I find them interesting if you have the room. Does anyone know how much clearance you need to the top of the tank, to handle the water surge? Also, are there any fail-safes in case the surge tank overfills? All I need is something else to flood.

I see on the pics nikki that there is an enclosed top with a vent going back to the tank in case the siphon unit decided not to siphon. Ive also seen one in a video and ill be damned if i could find it. That they use rubbermaid containers filled with live rock. Same sorta concept the tank fills from a pump and fills the container until the float raises a plunger and whoosh......cool surge. I would imagine you could make this these as simple to as elaborate as you wanted. you could also make them as small to large depending on your tank size and how much your overflows could handle. I think mojo should make one and show us how to do it...lol sound good to you guys.

the glass tank one looks pretty simple and not too far over the tank. your outlet though would have to let more out than your pump puts in.
