King their are several systems like this that have be out for along time. They are pretty pricey though. However their are some neat ION specific meters out by others but they are also pretty expencive

Yea it looks like they are sperating the functions of what colorimeters have alwasy been. The more expensive models say like the Lamotte ($800 model) has the ability of testing about 70 different parameters. So it would depend on how far you want to automate your testing, if you are looking to replace a couple of them with these good enough, if you like this style of testing you may want to look at the larger model.

looks cool though

Mojo where can we find info on the LaMotte model you discussed is that a Hanna Instruments product or someone else's?

So how reliable are these Hanna units??
I dont have the stats on them, that might be a bette question for the Boomer Mister. What colorimeters do is basically shine a light through the vial that you have put the test kit mixed into, then they make a determination as to what the reading is. SO they take the human eye out of the picture. So as long as it is calibrated right then the claim to have an accuracy level of .04ppm?? the larger unit is more accurate, but price would dictate that.

A big thing with either of these is to make sure the vial is as clean as possible as it will greatly effect the reading. The unit has a light strength formula in it, then it subtracts the vials reduction in that light passing through and comes up with a reading. So a dirty vial will give you a false reading.

The top system for measuring parameters like this are the ion specific meters, kind of like temp/ph meters but for specific things like phos/ammonia and so on. But these can cost a bit..quite a bit lol

hope it helps

It looks like this is going to be a great value compared to the testers that are already on the market. For me, the ability to automate calcium, alkalinity, nitrate, and phosphate testing for $50 a pop is a bargain. It looks like they sell reagents and test vials for all their other products so I'm assuming they'll be offered for these new testers as well. I use Elos test kits now and they make a great product but if these Hanna's are accurate I know what I want for my birthday.

Agreed.

Calcium and Alk is what I want...Thought about a Pinpoint Ca monitor, but everything I've read on them is to save your money..If the Hanna can give accurate result, I'm with Mike on what I want for my b-day.

:)

yep, basically...you have to calibrate the pinpoint calcium tester before every use... so yeah..kinda a pain.
i think the idea of $50 colorimeters that test for singular elements is smart!
i know i'll want alk, phos, and trates for sure, and maybe the calcium.

I see where the Alk unit is available for pre-orders..I really wish a Ca unit was available.

I think now would be the time to order the alkalinity meter. Getting the others as they become available breaks up the purchases so that you're not dropping a lot of cash at one time for several testers. I think I'm gonna get my order in.
