I seen a pic of a Tank that was lit with T-5 lamps. The SPSs even seem to be thriving under this type of Light.

First question is are they as good as people say and how do they compare to VHOs.

Second question is will an Icecap and Workhorse ballast drive them. And to what extent will the Icecap overdrive them.

Thrid question is if all of the above will work how many are required to produce the output of 660 watts of VHOs.

Thanks in Advance

The IceCap will not over drive these bulbs, I think last time I asked Andy he said two or three bulbs. They make a T5 & a HO T5 which is High output at 55watts. You would need quite a few to get your 660 Watts. T5 lights needs Reflectors, & the better reflector, the more efficient they are. They are also said to run much cooler than the PC & VHO but with these lights little test have been done, I can look at my links tomorrow (Sunday) and see if I can fine the test that has been recorded. In the US for aquarium use, T5 is fairly new, although T5 has been out years in office use, even longer in Europe.

Even though the upside of T-5's are their longer useful life and lower electricity consumption;Your SPS corals will be happier with M.H. lighting.
