I've always been a VHO fan. You can't beat VHO 454 actinic, IMO.

yes,,VHO 454 is the great sub,,but need to change out every 10-11 momths if you run 11-12 hrs a day ,,for the best performance..

Yes, I do change them out like you said, but I have done that for the last 20 years.

But then, the tank always looked good.

If you're using them, specifically for actinic supplements, I'd suggest VHO. If you're using them for their PAR value and to add useful lighting to the tank, other than actinics, I'd go with T5HO. T5HO "blue" bulbs still produce lots of usable PAR.

It's not a done deal, having to buy a chiller just because you have mh lighting.
I had 3 x 250 watt mh on my 180 for 3-4 years without buying a chiller.
At times it was a pain, but it worked.

i went ahead and got the icecap 4' light with 2x250hqi 2x48"t-5 2xicecap led tube......i picked up the phoinex 14000k MH.....any suggestions on what t-5 i should look into.
