I had always planned to call my insurance company and ask them about coverage in the event of a tank leak. I called today and was told any damage to the house other than the tank itself was fully covered. He freaked out when I told him it was over 600 gallons of water. Has anyone ever had experience with this???

Nope! We have contents insurance, but I doubt it covers the tank breaking a seal. The fine print always catches you in the end. 600 gallons could really do some major damage to your place from floors to furniature! I need to call my insurance company out of curiosity and see what they have to say about it...:)

LMBO!!!
i don't know anything about it dood :p but you better don't let any kid play baseball in your house

I have been doing mortgages for over 18 years. Recently, "last 2 to 3 years" I have seen insurance company's flat out turn people down for coverage because of water claims ....inlcuding aquariums or over flowing bath tubs and hard wood floors etc. I deal with 12 to 15 insurance policy's a month and this is becoming a big issue in the industry. Home owners insurance providers are stressing that home owners insurance is to cover catastrophic things like fire, not minor things like "water damage". I have seen people pay close to $1,800 a year for home owners insurance because of a water damage claim. Give it some thought before you turn it in to your insurance company.

reefreak, i have a question for you about a coral that you have..it is in an old pic that you posted... it looks like a leather...it is in the post about your hippo tang that you needed to find a home for...

I agree with Reefreak, insurance should only be used for major, major problems not a tank leak. I keep my insurance deductable at $1,000.00 and would only make a claim if the damage exceeded several thousand dollars. Once you make a claim, especially for a smaller claim, your rates will go up and most times a substantial amount. Think twice before you call your insurance company.

Regards,

Pat
