I picked up an Oceanic 58 rr with Starphire glass at Dennys Anniversary Sale a few weeks back. Today was the day for the move.

It went fairly smoothly. Kirk gave me some buckets for holding livestock during the move. It took about 1.5 hours to clear out the livestock and liverock from the old tank.

I had to modify my stand for the center overflow outlets. Then set up the tank.

I decided to go with CaribSea's Black Hawaiian sand for this tank. I think it will make the coral colors pop.

The move went pretty well. All the corals and fish seemed happy after the move into the new tank. An interesting thing happened with all my brittle stars. When I put them into the new tank they all came out of hiding and seemed to go into spawning mode.

I need to tweek the durso on this tank. It's doing a bit of gurgling and burping. That will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm beat!

Wow, thats a job I don want to have to do again. Thats a lot of work. I move a 55 out and a 75 into its place. There was no way I was moving the 75 by myself. Luckily I had a neighbor/fellow reefer help me. To move a tank out and set up a tank in its place and transfer live stock is a long and tough job. Glad it all worked out well for you.

Luckily I had my son to help with pulling the livestock out and moving the tanks.

It was a whole family affair when it came time to arrange the liverock. I didn't want to end up with a "wall of rock". I'll post pictures when I have things arranged. Right now it's a zoo island in the front of the tank. Plus I need to glue some frags back on rocks (no matter how hard you try, these get bumped off during a move).

Glad the move went well!! :) We will wait for some pictures now :D

On the gurgling, if messing with the durso doesn't help, maybe you can try an old trick of mine that always seemed to work for me if your input into your sump isn't set up this way already. It will cost you less than a dollar to try. I had gurgling issues that I found came from the water (as it entered the sump) colliding with the water that followed behind it so what I did was put a "Tee" fitting where the water exited into the sump to disperse the water out to the sides to prevent it. Worked like a charm in my case. Here's a picture below to show you what I mean. As mentioned, this may not be your problem, but said I'd mention it just incase it helps if all else fails :)

Well phooey, I forgot the joy that comes with an open top overflow. My male clown jumped the wall last night. On the plus side he is safe in the overflow. On the downside he's quick to dodge my hand when I try to scoop him out.

Krish - Thanks for the tip on the T. I guess a trip to Lowes or Ace is on my agenda for today.

I'm still have some arranging to do. All the Zoas/Palys are piled in one spot.

Some quick shots:

Wow you have quite a bit of stuff in there Dave. Maybe next time we are up at Todd's we should come over and clean you out a bit :D. Hows that monti frag doing?

Very nicely done. I know how much of a pain it can be to move tanks, glad to hear that everything went as smooth as can be. Nice size tank too. Very similar in size to my 65H. What size did you have previously?

Cheers,
Alex

Yeah, I do have quite a bit in there. My wife put me on a no new coral plan for a few months. I might need to thin out things a bit.

The monti frag is doing great.

Thanks!

I moved up from a 40b. The footprint is the same, I just gained about 6" or so in height. And the built-in overflow/return.
