Okay, how's this set up for a modest shroom tank?

All-Glass Aquarium 7gal minibow
32w Power Compact hood w/ 50/50 bulb
AquaClear 70 (300) as fuge (with AC mini impeller)
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Purifier
Tropic Marin salt
Tronic 50w heater in fuge

Not sure how many pounds of sand and rocks yet

Do I need a powerhead? I've read that mushrooms like low currents.

Any fishes to recommend?

Planning to get:
automatic water top-off
microchiller (I'll probably get it in time for the summer)

Sounds pretty decent for a shroom tank. I dont think you'd need a powerhead for shrooms. As far as fish go, I'd suggest a neon goby. Pretty colors, isnt a really active fish, stays small.

Not trying to be annoying/patronizing, but you're aware how hard nano tanks can be, right? This seems to be a fairly well thought out set up, but then you ask about mushroom requirements....that makes me wonder a bit.
Again, not trying to be derogatory, just dont want a beginner to get involved with something that might be over their head and get discouraged.

Sure, I know it ain't easy... But I've had over 5 years of experience in freshwater planted tanks, and I want to try something new. I also asked about the waterflow because the mini impeller maxes out at 100gph, but if I add a microhiller that's another source of water movement at 100gph too. Don't want the shrooms to be thinking they're in a whirlpool, heh.
 
Thats cool, Just trying to make sure. You should be fine. Shrooms will tolerate heavier flow, but can live in less. There all but indestructible.

I do wanna ask if I should put a sponge or something over the filter intake... It's what I do for my FW tanks because I have a lot of snails and have had a PH spit out snail bits more than once.
 
Hey man, check out the nanocube its a 12 or 24 gallon, already has the powercompact light, has fans to cool the tank, has the filter already built in, has the filter screens already built in, and its acrylic, so if you are sure your going to need the ice probe, it will be easier for you to use. And all in all will cost you less money. If you watch the top where the sponsors ads go, you will see one, you can even get a kit with hydrometer, live rock, live sand, and salt. Then people are selling nano packs of corals as well.
