Test Kit Upgrade

IMHO you are paying alot of money to test for alot of elements that are not going to be critical to your reef, added to the fact that if you invest all that money to test and the test unit goes down, you will be forced to go out and buy ALL the new test kits that you need to keep up and running. There is also the calibration factor and what kind and how many calibration fluids will you need? $500 will buy alot of standard test kits that do not ever need calibrated, and seems a little less complicated to use.

Wow, super cool. I do not have any experience with this, but I'll offer my opinion anyway.:)For the cost involved in this, it is more than just a simple "test kit upgrade". I think you may be able to find a better use for the funds if this is just for hobby testing. For instance, model DR/980 is the most feature rich device they offer testing for 32 different parameters at a cost of about $1000. While testing for 32 different parameters for a thousand bucks sounds good, would you also need to purchase 32 different reagents separately at a cost of $20-$30 per reagent, meaning an extra $640-$960(although saltwater aquaria does not require every one)? Would you still need to buy replacement probes? $$$$!! On the other hand, for lab grade testing, this sounds like it may be a more economical alternative when compared to other "lab grade" test. It is not worth it and as Dana stated "not for reef tanks". One of th big issues is the "salt" effect on a number of tests. So, it is a great toy for FW. I had many talks with this and other HACH units like a few years back in relation to seawater. There are lots of ther high end test kits if you want to upgrade, Like HACH, LaMotte, HF Scientific, Lovibond, Orbeco-Hellige, CHEMetrics, Taylor and Elos
