tests kits

What brand of test kits would you buy someone as a gift?
Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, copper.
Don't have the money for LaMotte, but want something accurate.

I think Salifert is probably as good as you are gonna get without spending the money on Lamotte. I've used Salifert kits for the past 4 years, and never had any problems with them. HTH.

I agree with Willis's human, salifert kits are great, easy to use, accurate, middle priced. For what you get they seem to be the best value. No reefer would be mad if they found those under the tree. LOL. HTH. Steve

Finns as per what kinds to buy it would depend at what stage in the game they were at. If they have had a tank up for a bit and its mature (about a year) I would get them cal, alk, phosphate and magnesium if you could. If thier new I would get ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate.

What about iodine? Does anyone ever test for that? Or strontium?

Willis's human thinks that's pretty darn funny, but they do make dribble towels for people with that specific problem.
I don't ever test for Iodine, I think regular water changes with a good salt should keep Iodine and Strontium at the prscribed levels.

Thanks everybody, yeah I was thinking Salifert.
This is for someone that moved to Austin TX and is having a few problems with a new setup. I guess they are not getting alot of good info at the lfs, or are having problems implementing the instructions.
So I figure that the best starting point would be good test kits.

johnehr - the article I linked below has some information about iodine test kits. As far as Strontium test kits, I would test for it if you are dosing a Sr supplement.
