IF going to a new tank, i cure in the tank with water params at normal reef.....temp at 80....toss in a couple powerheads and hmm cover my nose so i dont smell the stench ;)

Probably should use gloves....big chance of rocks being covered with bristleworm bristles...and those things are just nasty when your hands are covered in tiny, barely visible tiny spikes...

It's not a bad idea to toss in a skimmer, but i usually do water changes. This is for curing, not cycling a tank.

I just tossed mine in a trash can, PH and a skimmer no lights for a couple of weeks. And also did water changes.

I keep all the light I am going to have on the tank on the rock to keep any photosynthetic organisms alive. I also add a big skimmer and do frequent water changes, almost one a day. That way anything that is still allive when I get it will stay alive.

Ahhh - curing methods - another great debate. You can cure your rock in your tank (if it is a new set-up) in order to cycle it. Skimming vs. no skimming, lights vs. no lights, water changes vs. no water changes - it all has been debated. I just want to get the crud that the rock sheds up and out of the tank, and I feel water changes and skimming is a good way of doing that. I'm in the process of curing my live rock. Right now I have 170 pounds in a tank in the basement, without a skimmer (powerheads and a heater). After today (aquascape day) it will be curing in my display with a skimmer. I also plan on performing water changes, as well as a short photo period (not longer than an hour or two).

Were you looking to cure rock in a tank to cycle it? Or cure rock to add to an existing tank?
