The end of my Nano tank

So I went on vacation for 2 weeks while I was gone my buddy who was taking care of the house found my tank trying to flood the floor once and fixed it. Had no problems after that. He didnt come by yesterday because he knew I was going to be home that night. When we walked in the door much to our dismay we found there was about 3 inches of water left in the tank and it was about 50 degrees. All the fish were dead and I am pretty sure so are the acros. We quickley moved all the softies and anything we thought might still have some chance of survival down to the big tank. The cause of the whole thing was the gravity feed sump I made it got gumed up on the screen for the return and all the water flowed out onto the counter and onto the carpet. Some how the crab and sexy shrimp were still alive and we manged to get them safley into the big tank as well. After all this I am going to see what survives then I think I am going to sell all my live stock and take a break from the hobby. A day later and the zoos are all looking pretty good under my halide instead of the par 38.

Sorry to ehar man..That sucks! :doubt:. It's crazy how things can go south so easily, but take forever to build up!! Hope you are able to save some of your livestock. Good luck with it and sorry to hear again...

Sorry to hear about this... I'm going on vacation in a few months myself and I'm thinking it might be best to disconnect my sump from the display entirely. (Having all the equipment in the display tank won't bother me since I won't be there to see it.)

It seems we can't breathe easy even with someone to lookout for the tank while away.

Yea it really sucks glad I had a steam cleaner to clean up the carpet and it was only 5-7 gallons of water. My emerald crab and sexy shrimp did survive doing well today. Some of the zoos are opening as well today. The candy apples were spewing there guts yesterday but look better today. And I might have found my one pyolp of purple hornet. I would for sure disconnet your sump the only reason I would feel fine leaving my big one going is I have a battery backup connected to it. I guess I just wan't suppose to have a nano for 2011.

You need to modify your gavity feed sump. Mine is set up to loose its siphone if the tanks water level goes down an inch or so. Really easy mod to make to your system and will garantee this doesnt happen again.

The sump was supplied by small pump and returned by gravity. When I do set the system back up again I am going to splice in a float switch and relay so if the water level gets too high the pump will cut off.
