its still free you just dont get to see all of the games... I got the ncaa march madness pass for $60 bones and i will be able to see every game even if its not shown on cable...that the only difference

Everything I would be able to normally watch is still free.

But, if I happened to want to watch 4 games at once and only 2 would be normally televised, then if I bought the PayPerView then I could watch all at once?
