I have had a really fun year learning from you guys. I am wanting a recap of what some of you have taught me about phosphates, Mainly how do they get into the Saltwater Aquarium.

I remember things like excessive feedings- anything left uneaten, or dead animals- get anything out that is dead asap.
I remember it could come from Additives or treatments
I remember it could also come from unfiltered water

Ok, can any of you help me out please?
Thanks in Advance,
Ed

As I discovered in a debate with mojo, some substrates like aragonite can be already saturated with phosphates when you add them to your tank...

Vacuum your fish poop & waste (detritus) ASAP, this loose stuff needs to be removed BEFORE they become a problem. I learned that LR makes more than I could ever imagine!

Also - seafood gets sprayed with a sodium phosphate that should be soaked off with RO/DI before being used in blender mush. Some salts contain phosphates, Ca reactor media, and foods have varying degree of phosphates.
