Thinking about just setting up the 50b instead of waiting to get it drilled.

I've had it sitting in the garage since September. Getting impatient :( I get to live at this house possibly till april. We are surviving so far. If I could make this a poll if I could. Should I just rigged it up undrilled. I have a HoB from Mark rated for 75g high bioload. What would you guys do

If you would like me to include a poll in this thread for you, just let me know which options you would like here or is it just the two? (ie use undrilled with HOB skimmer or wait to drill). As for my opinion, I know you are getting a bit impatient, but I think it would be probably best that you wait if drilling the tank is what you really wanted. Setting the tank up as is just to pass the time may cause you more money down the road when you decide you want to change over. I've been down this road a few times before myself . In addition to that, you will be moving in April so as suggested, by the time you set this thing up and get everything all cycled and settled, it would be time to move so might be best to wait it out a bit more. Just a few thoughts...In all cases though, do what you want to do and not what people tell you to do. If you really want to set the tank up now then go for it. Our job here is just to offer you feedback/advice that you can use at your own will and also, make you aware of possible issues etc you can potentially run into down the road.

Good luck with whatever you decide and let me know if you need help with making this thread have a poll option. :)

If it were me, I'd drill the tank, put in an internal overflow at the very least and get all the equipment together; lighting, media reactors, test kits, pumps, supplies, etc. Once you get the tank drilled, you can add a decent sized sump and upgrade to an in-sump skimmer. My first tank took me about 2-3 months to get all the parts together. My current setup took me at least 6 months. It is hard to sit there looking at an empty tank, but moving a an aquarium after you just got it going would be more of PIA I would think.

Yeah everytime I go into the garage i'm like, this should be up and running.
Just gotta wait for someone to drill it for me. Half my family isn't on speaking terms right now.

Take the tank up to Perkins glass on Broadway in Seattle. They will only drill it on Saturday so call them a day or so before and let them know you want to come in. They will drill it for $10 if I remember correctly. I had them drill my fuge tank. You have a stand set yet. Great time to build one while you are waiting.

I am going to agree with others and urge you to wait. Although difficult, you can explore different lighting set ups, better filtration setups, and not fall into the trap of buying fish over upgrading your equipment :)

Don't think I would set up a tank if I was planning on moving in april. By the time the tank is happy, you are going to have to tear it down and set it up again...

I cant agree with this more. Thats only three and a half months for now and your move will be %100 less stressful if your not worried about SW livestock. Anyway, I would get it drilled first.

Yeah I'm going tot ry and get it drilled soon, I have a stand that i bought with it. We sold our van so there isn't a real for me to try and transfer it. I'm going to see if somehow I can fit it into my 88 mustang hatch. The measurements say it will fit. But I am doubtful. Being somewhat handicapped doesn't help either
