Sorry matt I didnt catch your post. Yes you can dose up the magnesium if it is still low after the water change.

well i think i found the root of all my problems. i've been buying water from the seattle aquarium for all my water changes. well today i tested the alk, calc and magnesium levels of the aquarium water. alk was at 2.0, calcium was around 300, magnesium was around 800, ph was 7.8. i'm going to go ahead and use the water this time around but i think it's time i bought an ro/di unit and just started making my water change water. i think that should solve my instabilities.

i guess the water out of the sound isn't that high in the stuff i need.

Elliot Bay water

Be careful with the Seattle Aquarium water. If you are using more than 1000 gallons of water it may not be a problem. If you are dealing with a closed system of less than a 100 gallons, you may have contaminants problems. They take there water from the bay and it is only filtered for particulates.

Warner Marine CALMAX

I remember when I started using Calmax I was strongly cautioned by Blue Sierra, (Mark who is not with them anylonger), not to dose parts A and B at the same time. I have been dosing am and pm but how far apart is OK? I recall Matt saying he dosed both in the am before work is this OK? Thanks :?:

Nancy as long as you dont do them at the same time your ok. If you do you get a nice lump of calcium.
aquariumdebacle they put the water through massive ammounts of UV and then filter out the particulates.
Matt those are pretty low numbers. When i tested it for my tank the lelvels were pretty close to normal seawater at 80 degree's/ I wonder if it has something to do wit the season???

Mike

i wonder as well. i'll go by the aquarium again and get a small sample to test again. i tested it at 75 degrees the first time (soap incident) then retested it again when i got the 2nd batch and it was about 78 degrees. i'll report the results as i should have the time to do it today.
