Going to buy some timers soon and was wondering what everybody uses. I had some of those $9 ones you can get at walmart on my last tank but now I'm looking for something a little more reliable for my new setup, ie. Coralife, Grasslins, other.

Thoughts/Opinions welcome :)

Does MH lighting require a heavier duty timer than other types of lighting? .

i dont think so i was over at lowes yesterday getting stuffing to finish my light hanging job and was over looking at the little non-digtal timers seeing if they would work with MH and they said they were good for up to 220v cant remember exact watts but i know it was more than i was going to have running off one (250w).

for a couple years, ran three 250s off of one grounded timer with no problem

where did you get one that does 3?I only saw single and double plug ones. That would be great insted of taking up 3 or 2 plugs i would only be taking up 1

Look at what your trying to power also check the breaker to check max load.
Example if you have 3 x 250 w that's about 7.5 amps if its on a ten amp breaker its maxed out and may blow with the start up load. Also look at the outlet if its a 10A then you wouldn't want to fire all the lights at once and need seperate timers. Just do the math to be on the safe side.

I found a digital one at Lowes that has two plug-ins on it (grounded). I have 2- 250w hallides plugged into it and so far so good. A little more, like $20, but in this hobby $20 is nothing right lol. Also, dido on the coralife strip timers they are total crap. I had one and the thing didn't burn down the house, thank god, but the timer would get stuck on/ off ect. Total waste or money.
