I still have not found a positive ID for this fish. I'm sure he's in the pomacentrus family somewhere, but I'd like to know what he/she is specifically. I've spent a lot of time looking through fish indexes with no certain ID. The closest I can come is the creole damsel or pomacentrus agasizzi, but not really sure it's that one. Whenever people look at him, they all say they've never seen a fish like him He's about 5" and completely purple. He has a light blue color to his iris. He behaves somewhat like a damsel, but is not overly territoral. He will nibble on seaweed and I've seen him nibble on GSP. He seems to really like the Formula one pellets. Here are some pictures, not the best, I know.

Not ignoring your post, just haven't found a good match yet. It has alot in common with a few genus including Plectroglyphidodon and Neoglyphidodon moreso, Microspathodon not so much. It also has some remnants of Chromis.

If I went by just the last pic on the right, I'd say Neoglyphidodon melas.

Cheers
Steve

Appreciate your effort. I'm just a novice and it takes me twice as long to sift through info that's not relevant........

Yes, I think it very well might be the Neoglyphidodon melas in the adult stage, although the name is misleading, as he's really a purple/blue color. Thanks for looking!!!

could it be a mix?
Possible but I doubt it.

Shades of color can often be deceiving when trying to ID animals especially where fluorescent lighting is used. Also one reason I do not use common names that often, they rarely depict the fish that well.

at the risk of sounding goofy as h$**, you could call your fish "Barney" the big purple fish....J/K

look kinda like a western blue devil its not from australia is it just my 2cents

I agree with Steve... this is one of the "giant damsel" genera species. Do see the coverage of this very topic at wetwebmedia.com (Giant damsels)
