Hey Kevin, take a look at the base of my SPS here, any idea what could be causing the tissue loss? It was mounted maybe 3-4 weeks ago and seems to be steadily getting worse. Maybe the mounting process irritated it?

Hi Brian,
Many of the Acropora corals don't like to encrust downward unless they are mounted horizontally to a rock. They shade themselves from light which can make it difficult to grow. If the tissue is receding up the branch you can cut and remount it or put a ring of super glue on the live tissue just above the dead part. It doesn't appear to be receding too fast as it looks like coralline algae is growing on the skeleton. Usually in situations where immediate action is required you will see bright white skeleton showing because the tissue is receding faster than coralline can grow.

HTH,
Kevin

I saw a bit of burn tips on the right. If so, it could be your water parameters restricting growth.
Check your KH,Mg, lastly Ca with realiable test kit:rolleyes:

Just my 2 cents. I could be wrong.

Brian, is that the only coral in your tank that is being affected?

As far as I can tell, yes.

Thanks Kevin, that's a good idea. I think I'll probably remount it as soon as I get a chance or this is going to be one weird-looking coral.

Hey, good eye. That tip is dead because the frag fell into the sand before I had a chance to mount it, courtesy of a hermit crab.

Thanks everyone!
